Bourgeau Cliffs
Canada | Banff | Banff Rock
SPORT TRADITIONAL
These cliffs are situated at the base of Mount Bourgeau and face south towards the Sunshine Ski Resort parking lot. The main climbing area is divided roughly in two by a prominent waterfall, climbed in winter by the classic ice climb Bourgeau Left-hand. The most developed area is Bourgeau Slab, located a short distance right of the waterfall and one of the better multi-pitch sport climbing areas in the Canadian Rockies. Two interesting, but probably unrepeated, climbs have been done on the large wall left of the waterfall, Bourgeau Wall. Recently a multi-pitch sport climb The Early Worm was completed on the same wall between the existing routes.

The cliffs face south and despite the high elevation have a surprisingly long climbing season. This, combined with excellent rock and a relatively short approach (30 minutes), makes them increasingly popular.
