Canal Zone
United States | Tunnel One | Rock Climbing Clear Creek
SPORT TRADITIONAL
Located next to an old concrete canal, Canal Zone is a great wall with a lot to offer if you like climbing 5.8 to 5.11 on great stone in the shade on a summer’s day. This vertical to sometimes slabby wall has some great moderates in a great location but is often extremely busy, especially on a weekend. It is north-facing and has shade most of the day with late afternoon sun in the summer.
Approach: From the stoplight at the intersection of Hwy-58, Hwy-93, and US-6, drive 0.2 miles west up canyon to the first pullout on the left (south) side of the road. The crag is located about a half mile upstream on the south side of the river. From the pullout, walk south and down the steep and loose hill below the parking lot to a wide dirt path. Head right and walk up canyon for a short ways to the nice new pedestrian bridge. Walk across the bridge, and once just beyond it, turn left onto a trail. Hike a short ways and then turn right on another trail that leads uphill to the old aqueduct. From here, turn right again and walk west along the aqueduct for a few minutes until you reach the cliff.
