Catslab
United States | Tunnel Five | Rock Climbing Clear Creek
SPORT
This is where you will find most of the 5.7-5.10 climbers on a Saturday afternoon, and for good reason. Catslab has some of the finest and safest moderates in the canyon, and the best part is you can’t even hear or see the road! This peaceful sanctuary of slab climbs hosts a handful of classics, as well as a 5.4 sport climb that is perfect for your first lead. Land ownership issues in the past have halted climbers from coming here, but in 2010 Catslab became part of Clear Creek County Open Space and is open for climbing.
Approach: Park on the west side of Tunnel 5, on the south (left) side of the road after driving 12.2 miles up the canyon. Walk across the bridge towards Tunnel 5, and then take the generally flat trail on the south side of the road for a little less than a quarter mile before reaching the distinct, clean slab on your left.
