Higher Wire
United States | Tunnel Two East | Rock Climbing Clear Creek
SPORT
Nestled in above the Stone Cold Moderate area at High Wire (p74), Higher Wire is an okay little crag with one noteworthy climb. Jack of Hearts (5.11a) is a fun climb and probably worthy of the extra uphill effort, and King of Spades (5.11d) is not bad if you can ignore the crappy rock down low. This wall gets afternoon shade and has wonderful views of the canyon walls. It’s a nice little hang out, it just doesn’t have the greatest rock quality.
Approach: Located high up in the canyon on the east side of Tunnel 2, drive 6.0 miles up the canyon and park at a long, narrow pullout on the north (right) side of the road. After parking, walk towards the tunnel, cross to the south side of the road and take the steep trail up a few feet of third class terrain before gaining a smoother approach trail to the base of High Wire (p74). To get to Higher Wire, continue left, past High Wire to the left of Pony Up (p74) to a ridge with a large pine tree. There will be a faint trail on the right just past the tree that continues up and to the right to the base of the cliff.
