River Wall
United States | Tunnel Two East | Rock Climbing Clear Creek
SPORT MIXED PRO
The River Wall has so much variety that it will keep you coming back for more once you get a taste. While High Wire gets blasted with direct sunlight all morning and most of the afternoon, River Wall stays in the shade until the summer evening hours. The wall is split up into a few different sectors with different styles of climbing in each of them. The lower section involves climbing single pitches to the ledge halfway up the wall and includes fun routes like The Put In (5.8+), Muddy Waters (5.10a), and The River Mild (5.10c). Most of theses routes are slabby to vertical, with thin cruxes and each of them can be used to access the ledge and upper pitches. The second half of the wall holds a handful of steep, hard routes, including the classic Adventure Kayak Trundle (5.12a). The upper routes are also separated by a block with a slot/squeeze chimney to the right of Viagra Falls called The Snead Slot. However you manage to squeeze through it, just know it’s a little tougher on the way back. Passing the slot will allow you access to traverse to more belay anchors and more routes to the right of the upper wall like Right to Life (5.11d) and Slacker (5.12c). The wall is west-facing and only gets sun in summer evenings.
Approach: Drive 6.0 miles up the canyon and park at a long, narrow pullout on the north (right) side of the road. After parking, walk towards the tunnel. River Wall is on the south side of the road and before the bridge. The first route on the left that you will see is The Put In.
