The Conspiracy Crag
United States | Tunnel Six | Rock Climbing Clear Creek
SPORT
This wall holds a few fun sport routes that are off the beaten path and high in the canyon, so the views are phenomenal. Just to name a few; Designer Genes (5.12a), Soma (5.12a), and Life is Beautiful (5.12b) are all great routes that are recommended for a first timer. If you’re looking for something easier, than head down to Martians on Mopeds for a great 5.9 pitch. The routes here don’t get very much traffic, so a brush is nice to make a lot of the holds more friendly. Also, don’t be surprised to see a herd of bighorn sheep walking around up here. The Conspiracy Crag is south facing and gets morning sun and nice evening shade.
Approach: Drive 12.8 miles up canyon and park 100 yards west of Tunnel 6 on the north (right) side of the road. From here, hike east on the creekside trail until reaching the tyrolean about 200 yards downstream. Take the tyrolean across the creek. You may also cross the creek by walking across when the water is low. Once across the tyrolean, hike downstream past the Armory (p264) for a few hundred feet before locating a faint, uphill trail on your left. The trail is littered with plenty of cairns to mark the way, but you should be able to see the cliff as you start to hike up to it following switchbacks.
