Twilight Zone
United States | Tunnel One | Rock Climbing Clear Creek
SPORT
Welcome to the Twilight Zone! If you have made it this far, then you will notice you are surrounded by an amphitheater of featured rock. The climbs here are categorized as Canal Zone’s ugly sister because of the rock quality. It is recommended that belayers and climbers wear helmets. That being said, some of the climbs here have fantastic movement and are worthy of the hike uphill. This is high in the canyon and faces north. The only time it gets blasted with sun is in the summer afternoon.
Approach: Use the same approach as Canal Zone (p20). Hike about 50 feet past Canal Zone to find a faint trail leading uphill to the left, hidden in the bushes. Hike up switchbacks in the center of the gully until you reach the base of the cliff. Be very mindful of loose rock on this approach so you don’t drop any bombs on the climbers at the Canal Zone.
