There is a small buttress southwest of Nymph Lake with a few routes of interest and a short, but arduous, approach. The buttress and the top of an ice pillar can be seen from the northeast corner of Nymph Lake, in the vicinity of a sign that reads “Restoration Area.” Approach 1: Head southwest from the lake and cross Tyndall Creek. A low cliffband is passed on the left (south). Gain the shelf above the cliff and head for the ice, which is barely visible above through the trees. Approach 2: Follow the Emerald Lake Trail past the Nymph Lake Ice cliff to where the trail draws near to Tyndall Creek. Drop down into the drainage and contour south below the cliffs and towards the objective. Pick up a long ledge that eventually leads right under the buttress and the ice.
