Longs Peak -Chasm View Wall
Rocky Mountain National Park
TRADITIONAL ALPINE
This is the broad, tawny face between the right end of Broadway and Mount Lady Washington. The wall is perfectly continuous from the North Chimney all the way across. As such, the routes Eclipse and Zigzag are included in this section. The 600-foot concave wall reaches the crest of the ridge between Longs Peak and Mount Lady Washington and is host to some of the best climbs in the Park. Approach: Hike the East Longs Peak Trail to a junction at 3.5 miles and take the left branch into the Chasm Lake Cirque. Hike through boulders along the north shore of Chasm Lake, and contour around to the far north side of the Mills Glacier. Continue up talus or snow to the bottom of the wall. Most routes begin from the long ramps that angle up and right toward Mount Lady Washington. Routes nearer to the North Chimney begin directly from the Mills Glacier. Descent: For routes that finish on Broadway, the easiest return to the bottom of the wall is to rappel Crack of Delight or Babies R Us. For routes that finish on the ridge crest, return to the Chasm Lake Cirque via The Camel. For routes that finish below and left of the ridge crest, above Chasm View Wall, traverse right via Chasm Cut-Off and gain the ridge crest near the top of Directissima.
