Thatchtop

Rocky Mountain National Park

TRADITIONAL
ICE/MIXED

Thatchtop (12,668’) is the large, bulky mountain that separates Glacier Gorge from Loch Vale. Its summit is about a mile northeast from Powell Peak, the latter of which straddles the Continental Divide, and like Thatchtop, faces both Glacier Gorge and Loch Vale. Beyond an athletic summit scramble, Thatchtop has not drawn the interest of rock climbers, but does have a fine collection of winter ice climbs on its east and north sides. Approach: See each area for specific directions.
