Serpent
Australia | SE Queensland | South East Queensland Climbing
SPORT TRADITIONAL
Developed in the late 90s after discovery by Darrin Carter and Co., Serpent was Queensland’s first sport crag. Nearly all the routes are bolted, and all have lower-off’s. But true to the times, some routes still sport carrot bolts requiring keyhole hangers while others require a piece or two of trad gear. That said, there are some quality routes at this crag that is subject to peaks and troughs of interest by climbers. Take a 60m rope and about 10 quickdraws. A couple of 60cm slings will be helpful to reduce drag. A handful of removable keyhole hangers will also be needed, for some routes still have a carrot bolt or two. The rock is very hard but can be brittle, so helmets are recommended. If like most you want to climb the classic Minotaur, take a large cam such as a #4 camalot.
